IFC lends $534M to ENGIE to boost renewable energy in emerging markets

  The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has announced a landmark green and sustainability-linked loan of €500 million ($534 million) to   ENGIE S.A. , the parent holding company of the ENGIE Group. IFC said in a statement on last Thursday that the financing aims to bolster ENGIE’s efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio in emerging markets and decarbonize its activities. It is also designed to advance Poland’s decarbonization goals and enhance energy security in South Africa by promoting clean and sustainable energy solutions, it added. According to the statement, the loan includes ambitious climate targets as well as innovative occupational health and safety commitments. It is co-financed with two other development finance institutions, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Société de Promotion et de Participation pour la Coopération Economique (Proparco). NASA Awards UH $1.2 Million to Strengthen Diversity in STEM and Aerospace Engineering

  NASA is awarding the University of Houston $1.2 million to grow diversity initiatives in STEM and aerospace -related engineering fields and address barriers to access and success for historically underserved and underrepresented students. The award is for a project called the Partnership for Inclusivity in Engineering Education and Research for Space, also known as PIE  2 RS, a synergistic collaboration between  UH ,  UH -Clear Lake, NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the Boeing Company and the Greater Houston Partnership. “Our research , as well as the research of leading scholars, has highlighted the challenges underrepresented students face, including isolation, marginalization, racial bias and hostile educational environments,” says Jerrod A. Four Illinois researchers receive Presidential Early Career Award

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Four researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign were named recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers , the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on young professionals at the outset of their independent research careers. The winners this year are health and kinesiology professor Marni Boppart , physics professor Barry Bradlyn, chemical and biomolecular engineering professor Ying Diao and computer scienceprofessor Edgar Solomonik.
