AIRAH Awards 2024: University of Wollongong wins research award

A project by the University of Wollongong has taken home the 2024 AIRAH Award for Excellence in HVAC&R Research.

The initiative involved the development of innovative solutions to advance solar energy and thermal energy storage in HVAC systems for decarbonising the heating and cooling of buildings.

It delivered innovative HVAC systems and solutions that used photovoltaic thermal collectors, thermal energy storage, membrane distillation and transpired solar collectors for increased energy efficiency and self-sufficiency of energy generation. It also developed innovative techniques for thermal energy storage design and efficiency improvement of solar panels.

These solutions could be used to increase building demand flexibility, address energy efficiency and decarbonisation, and assist in taking HVAC off the grid.
