IFC lends $534M to ENGIE to boost renewable energy in emerging markets

  The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has announced a landmark green and sustainability-linked loan of €500 million ($534 million) to   ENGIE S.A. , the parent holding company of the ENGIE Group. IFC said in a statement on last Thursday that the financing aims to bolster ENGIE’s efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio in emerging markets and decarbonize its activities. It is also designed to advance Poland’s decarbonization goals and enhance energy security in South Africa by promoting clean and sustainable energy solutions, it added. According to the statement, the loan includes ambitious climate targets as well as innovative occupational health and safety commitments. Four Illinois researchers receive Presidential Early Career Award

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Four researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign were named recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers , the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on young professionals at the outset of their independent research careers. The winners this year are health and kinesiology professor Marni Boppart , physics professor Barry Bradlyn, chemical and biomolecular engineering professor Ying Diao and computer scienceprofessor Edgar Solomonik. TikTok owner ByteDance wins outstanding research award at annual ‘Olympics of AI’

  An  artificial intelligence  (AI) study by researchers from  social-media  giant  ByteDance  and China’s  Peking University  received the “Outstanding Paper” award from this year’s Annual Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS), often referred to as the “Olympics of AI”. The AI paper, “ Visual Autoregressive Modelling : Scalable Image Generation via Next-Scale Prediction”, examined a unique approach to generating images at a faster speed with better quality and scalability. The award is expected to be given at the conference in Vancouver,  Canada , from December 10 to 15. It was one of the more than 50 research works from  TikTok  owner ByteDance that was accepted at this year’s NeurIPS.
