Cells have built-in way to revive from 'brink of death', says new research by CCMB scientists
Scientists at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, have uncovered a remarkable survival mechanism in cells that allows them to recover even after approaching the "brink of death." The study reveals that when cells undergo extreme stress or damage, they can activate a protective response that halts the self-destruction process and revives normal function. This discovery challenges the long-held belief that once cells cross a critical threshold of programmed cell death (apoptosis), recovery is impossible. The findings not only deepen our understanding of cell biology but also open new avenues for therapeutic research in degenerative diseases, cancer, and tissue repair, where controlled revival of cells could play a key role in treatment strategies.
